Frequently Asked Questions

I FOUND A STRAY DOG IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. CAN I DROP HIM OFF AT THE RESCUE OR CAN YOU COME GET HIM?

No. The City of Meridian is under contract with Idaho Humane Society (IHS) for all lost / found pets. If you have found or lost a pet, please contact IHS at (208) 342-3508, or visit their website for more information.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ADOPT A DOG FROM MVHS?

The adoption fee depends on the dog’s breed, age and condition of the animal. Because we receive no funding, our adoption fees must cover the costs associated with caring for the dog at our Rescue. If you are interested in adopting one of the available dogs, please contact the Rescue about the adoption fee.

DOES THE ADOPTION FEE INCLUDE SHOTS AND “FIXING” THE DOG?

The adoption fee includes the initial vaccinations given at the time they arrive at our rescue and also includes spay or neutering.

IF I SEE A DOG I AM INTERESTED IN AND WOULD LIKE TO ADOPT, WHAT IS THE FIRST THING I NEED TO DO?

The first thing you need to do is fill out and submit a pre-adoption questionnaire at the Rescue. This will give us a little background on your living situation so we have a better understanding if the dog you are interested in will be a good fit for you.

IF MY DOG NEEDS TO BE SPAYED/NEUTERED, CAN I TAKE THEM TO MY OWN VET?

Not generally. We contract with a few local vet clinics for spays and neuters. They offer us a generous discount, and we will schedule the dog you adopt with whoever can get the dog in the soonest.

I HAVE A DOG THAT NEEDS A NEW HOME, CAN YOU HELP ME?

We will evaluate your dog, and if we feel we can find a good home, we can take her into our rescue. If you would like to surrender your dog, please contact us at (208) 794-0944.

I DON’T SEE ANY CATS FOR ADOPTION ON YOUR WEBSITE. WHY IS THAT?

Meridian Valley Humane Society is a CANINE Rescue; therefore, we do not house or adopt out cats.
